Tragedy struck in the Oja-Oba area of Ikirun, Osun State, on Tuesday morning when a sand-laden heavy-duty truck was involved in a fatal crash that claimed two lives and left several others injured.
According to TAA Reports correspondents, Ismail Olaiya and Aisha Onaolapo, the accident occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. when the truck, reportedly experiencing brake failure, veered off the road and rammed into nearby structures, causing extensive property damage.
Eyewitnesses described the impact as devastating, with pedestrians and shop owners caught unawares. Emergency responders, including ambulance services, arrived promptly to evacuate the victims.
Despite rescue efforts, a man and a pregnant woman were confirmed dead at the scene. Another victim, a young male, sustained severe injuries and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
As of press time, authorities had yet to issue an official statement or disclose the identities of the deceased. The incident has renewed concerns over road safety and the condition of heavy-duty vehicles, particularly those transporting construction materials through densely populated areas of Ikirun.
