Dangote Refinery has taken delivery of its first batch of compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to commence nationwide distribution of premium motor spirit (PMS) and automotive gas oil (AGO) from 15 August 2025.
The 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Anthony Chijiena.
According to the statement, the N720 billion investment is designed to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution network by cutting logistics costs and improving supply efficiency for consumers.
“The fleet of fuel tankers, imported through Apapa Port, represents a significant capital outlay estimated at N720 billion. The first consignment recently departed Apapa Port and was formally received at the refinery site in Ibeju-Lekki by the Vice-President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Ltd., Devakumar Edwin,” the statement read in part.
The refinery had earlier announced that the distribution scheme would trigger a major shake-up in the nation’s downstream oil and gas sector.
However, petroleum product marketers and the Natural Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA) have, at various forums, expressed opposition to the initiative, warning it could lead to large-scale job losses.
