The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed the resolution of technical hitches that affected the recently released 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its Public Affairs Department, the examination body admitted to discovering technical bugs in the results for key subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
The development followed widespread concerns raised by candidates and stakeholders over anomalies observed on the result portal.
“As part of our efforts to curb examination malpractice, the Council embarked on an innovation—paper serialization—already deployed by a national examination body,” WAEC explained.
The council noted that the paper serialization initiative, aligned with international best practices in assessment, was applied to the affected subjects. However, an internal post-release review uncovered technical issues linked to the innovation.
“In view of our commitment to professionalism and fairness, we have urgently reviewed and corrected the glitches. Consequently, access to the 2025 WASSCE (School Candidates) results was temporarily suspended,” the statement read.
WAEC has now advised all candidates who previously accessed their results to revisit the result portal after 24 hours to confirm the updated outcomes.
“We extend our deep and sincere apologies to all affected candidates and the general public. We appreciate their patience and understanding as we resolve this matter with urgency and transparency,” it added.
Reaffirming its commitment to excellence, WAEC concluded: “We remain devoted to upholding the principles of integrity, fairness, and quality service delivery to the Nigerian child.”
