
A team of officers from the Nigeria Police Force has reportedly broken the right hand of Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), while in detention.
The incident allegedly occurred in the early hours of Thursday at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, where Sowore was being held.
A statement posted on his verified Instagram page disclosed that a team led by a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit, forcefully entered his cell around 6:00 a.m., assaulted him, and subsequently moved him to an undisclosed location.
“At about 6AM, a police team, headed by a CSP from the IGP Monitoring Unit, forcibly entered Omoyele Sowore’s detention cell at the FID in Abuja, broke his right hand, and transported him to an undisclosed location,” the post read.
Sowore was detained on Wednesday after honouring an invitation by the IGP Monitoring Unit over allegations of forgery and inciting public disturbance.
