…Calls for Swift Dialogue to End Nationwide Nurses’ Strike
The Speaker of the Offa Local Government Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Mustapha Olawale Sharafa, has lauded the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his commitment to the welfare of healthcare workers, particularly nurses across the state.
Speaking against the backdrop of the ongoing nationwide strike by members of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Sharafa commended the governor for creating an enabling environment for nurses to thrive, describing him as “a fatherly figure” and a “listening leader who prioritizes the well-being of his people.”
In a statement signed by Olawole Jubril FMJ Ibolo, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, the lawmaker said: “It is important to clarify that the decision of nurses in Kwara to join the national strike was not borne out of any form of discontent with the state government, but rather a show of solidarity with their colleagues across the country,” the Speaker noted.
According to Sharafa, Governor AbdulRazaq’s efforts to enhance the healthcare sector in the state have not gone unnoticed.
“Our nurses are among the most hardworking professionals, and we are grateful to His Excellency for ensuring that their welfare is taken seriously. His dedication to their well-being, and indeed that of all Kwarans, is a shining example of responsible leadership,” he said.
The Speaker also appealed to the national leadership of NANNM and the Federal Government to explore constructive engagement and dialogue as a pathway to resolving the industrial impasse.
He expressed optimism that a swift and amicable resolution would allow nurses to resume their vital roles in delivering essential healthcare services to Nigerians.
“We believe in the power of dialogue and understanding. A speedy resolution will not only restore normalcy in our health institutions but also reaffirm our collective commitment to the health and safety of our citizens,” Sharafa added.
