The Kwara State Government has debunked circulating reports suggesting the construction of a new Government House in Ilorin.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Kunle Gbadeyan, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the government clarified that the ongoing construction project near the Deputy Governor’s Office is strictly for additional office accommodation—not a new Government House.
The clarification followed the official handover of the site to Mapet Construction Ltd., the firm contracted to execute the project.
Addressing journalists at the brief ceremony, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, dismissed the rumour as false, stating that the project is aimed at expanding office infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency within the civil service.
“There is no plan to build a new Government House. What we are doing is constructing new office blocks to support effective service delivery. The rumour going around is fake,” he said.
According to Dr Ogunsola, the proposed one-storey complex will comprise multiple office suites, a conference room, and other essential workspaces, all designed to meet the growing administrative needs of the state.
He noted that the initiative is in line with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to improving the work environment for government employees and strengthening public service delivery.
“These new offices will bridge existing gaps and meet the current trend of enhancing the smooth running of the state,” he added.
The commissioner assured that the project would be closely monitored to ensure timely delivery within the stipulated one-year timeframe, while urging the contractor to adhere strictly to quality standards and approved specifications.
