Two Osun Reps Members Resign From PDP Amid Internal Crisis

Two members of the House of Representatives from Osun State, Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro and Omirin Emmanuel Olusanya, have formally resigned their membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ajilesoro represents the Ife Federal Constituency, comprising Ife Central, Ife North, Ife East, and Ife South, while Omirin represents the Ijesa South Federal Constituency, which covers Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakunmosa East, and Atakunmosa West.

Their resignations were communicated through separate letters addressed to their respective ward chairmen, marking yet another blow to the PDP in Osun amid a wave of defections.

In his letter dated 22 July 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ilare Ward II, Ife Central Local Government Area, Ajilesoro cited persistent internal crises, deep-seated divisions, and a pervasive culture of legal disputes as the key reasons for his decision.

He stated, “Please accept this letter as formal notification of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective immediately. This decision, though difficult, has become necessary due to the persistent internal conflicts, deep-seated divisions, and the pervasive culture of legal disputes that have unfortunately come to characterise the party.”

He further remarked, “These factors have made it increasingly difficult for me to reconcile my continued membership with my personal convictions and aspirations for effective governance. I remain grateful for the opportunity to have served within the party.”

Similarly, in a letter dated 17 July 2025 and addressed to the PDP Ward 10 Chairman in Atakunmosa East Local Government Area, Iperindo, Omirin cited wrangling, irreconcilable divisions, and multiple legal battles as the basis for his exit.

His letter read in part, “I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, with immediate effect, due to the wrangling factors, irreconcilable division, and several legal battles that have become the norm in the party. It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith.”

Ajilesoro and Omirin become the latest PDP lawmakers from Osun State to exit the party, following earlier resignations by high-profile figures including Hon. Oluwole Oke (Ijesa North – Obokun/Oriade), Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), and Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central).

The increasing spate of defections signals a significant political setback for the PDP in Osun, which had achieved a sweeping victory in the 2023 general elections—clinching all three senatorial seats, all nine House of Representatives positions, and 25 out of 26 seats in the State House of Assembly.

While neither Ajilesoro nor Omirin disclosed their next political move, there is widespread speculation about their potential defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in light of political realignments ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
