An officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jubrin Buba, has been remanded in the Kuje Custodial Centre by an FCT High Court sitting in Apo, Abuja, over his failure to appear for trial on forgery charges.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is prosecuting Buba for allegedly forging a Bachelor of Science degree certificate in Public Administration, purportedly issued by the University of Jos on 7 October 2009, which he allegedly used in 2015 to secure employment with the NSCDC.
The offences, bordering on forgery and making false statements to a public officer, contravene Section 366 of the Penal Code and are punishable under Section 364.
Buba was first arraigned in 2022 before Justice Asma’u Akanbi at the FCT High Court in Kubwa and was granted bail on liberal terms. Following Justice Akanbi’s elevation to the Court of Appeal, the case was reassigned to Justice Binta Dogonyaro of the FCT High Court, Apo.
Despite being duly notified, Buba failed to appear for his arraignment on 22 January 2025. Consequently, the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest. He was apprehended and arraigned on 26 June 2025.
At the resumed hearing, Justice Dogonyaro revoked Buba’s earlier bail and ordered his remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre. The matter has been adjourned to 27 and 28 October 2025 for hearing.
