The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has explained why former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, are yet to officially join the opposition party.

Addressing journalists in Abuja at the weekend, Abdullahi disclosed that both political figures had been permitted to conclude outstanding electoral matters within their former parties before making a formal switch to the ADC.

He assured the public of their unwavering commitment to the ADC coalition, stating that their formal entry would follow the completion of these processes.

“They were granted the latitude to wrap up pending electoral engagements, including by-elections and governorship candidate selections within their legacy parties,” Abdullahi said.

Commenting on concerns over the party’s internal democracy, he maintained that the ADC harbours no hidden agenda nor anointed candidates, emphasising that all aspirants would enjoy a level playing field in the contest for the party’s ticket.

He also dismissed speculations about legal hurdles confronting the ADC, asserting: “We are confident in the legality of every step we have taken. We have proactively sealed all possible loopholes the ruling party might attempt to exploit against us.”
