Panic gripped the Ipetumodu community in Osun State on Thursday following the gruesome discovery of a local farmer, Akeem Jimoh, who was found dead on his farmland located along the Ipetumodu–Asipa boundary.
Jimoh reportedly left his home in Ipetumodu around 7:00 a.m. to attend to his farm. However, by midday, news filtered through the town that he had been brutally murdered by unknown assailants.
A relative of the deceased, who spoke under condition of anonymity due to safety concerns, disclosed that the incident was promptly reported to the Amotekun Corps.
“The security outfit immediately launched a search operation. Akeem left home around 7:00 a.m. The farmland is on the border between Ipetumodu and Asipa. Sadly, his corpse was discovered by Amotekun operatives at about 12:30 p.m.,” the source stated.
The body was subsequently conveyed to the Ipetumodu Police Division, sparking outrage among residents, who condemned the killing and demanded swift justice.
Security operatives intervened to pacify the angry crowd, assuring them that a thorough investigation had commenced to apprehend the culprits.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, revealed that preliminary investigations indicated the victim was stabbed to death.
“The deceased, identified as Akeem Jimoh, was confirmed dead after suffering stab wounds. Some individuals are currently under suspicion in connection with the case,” Ojelabi stated.
He further disclosed that the matter had been escalated for detailed investigation and reassured the public of the command’s commitment to delivering justice.
“No arrests have been made at this time, but a full-scale investigation is ongoing. The command remains resolute in its efforts to bring the perpetrators to book,” he affirmed.
