Carlo Ancelotti, current head coach of the Brazil national football team, has been handed a one-year prison sentence in Spain for tax fraud offences committed during his tenure at Real Madrid in 2014.
According to The Sun UK, the Italian tactician was found guilty of concealing income derived from his image rights while managing the Spanish club. However, he was acquitted of similar charges relating to the 2015 tax year.
Despite the ruling, Ancelotti is unlikely to face time behind bars. Under Spanish law, custodial sentences of less than two years for first-time, non-violent offenders are typically suspended.
The 66-year-old, who previously managed Chelsea and AC Milan, was accused of evading more than £833,000 in taxes. Although he consistently denied the allegations, Spanish authorities maintained that he misled the tax office during his initial spell at Real Madrid, which lasted until 2016 before he joined Bayern Munich.
Ancelotti returned to manage Real Madrid in 2021 after stints at Napoli and Everton, before accepting the Brazil national team role in 2025.
