Senate Yet To Receive CTC Of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Judgment

The Nigerian Senate has acknowledged the recent court judgment involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan but confirmed it is yet to receive the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the ruling.

This clarification was made on Sunday in a statement issued by Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Adaramodu noted that although the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered its verdict on 4 July in the suit instituted by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senate had not been officially served the CTC of the judgment. He explained that the document is essential for a detailed review and to determine the Senate’s next legal steps.

“Our legal representatives, who were present during the proceedings, have confirmed that the full judgment was not read in open court,” the statement read. “Accordingly, the Senate has applied formally for the CTC to facilitate an informed legal assessment, especially considering the ambiguity regarding whether the court issued any express order nullifying Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.”

Adaramodu emphasised that no party involved in the matter had yet been served with the enrolled order of the judgment, making any attempt to enforce perceived directives premature.

He maintained that, based on legal advice, the Senate would refrain from any action that could compromise its legal standing until the court’s position is clearly established.

Reiterating the Senate’s commitment to the rule of law, Adaramodu assured that the Upper Chamber would act strictly within the framework of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

“We urge the public to remain patient,” he said, “as the Senate remains committed to due process and will await the Certified True Copy of the court’s ruling to guide its next course of action.”
