In January, 2025, less than a month after her crowning as Arewa Offa 2024/2025, News Bulletin Nigeria sat down with the newly crowned queen, Mustapha Amidat Oluwaferanmi Adunni, who shared her inspiring journey, her passion for culture, and her vision for positive change.
Enjoy excerpts from the exclusive interview:
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
My name is Mustapha Amidat Oluwaferanmi Adunni, also known as Aduke Okin. I am the new Miss Arewa of Offa 2024/2025. I hail from Ile Akingbasa, Alowolodu Bi Iyere, in Balogun District of Offa. I was born and raised here in Offa, and I speak Yoruba and English fluently.
What About Your Educational Journey?
I started my education at Kingdom International Nursery and Primary School, then proceeded to Adeola College for my secondary school education. I later attended Ekiti State University, where I obtained a B.Sc. in Economics. During my time at the university, I was the Social Directress of the 2023/2024 set. I also held the titles of Miss EKSU in 2022 and Face of EKSU in 2023.
How Did Your Interest In Fashion Begin, And What Are Your Career Aspirations?
Fashion has always been a passion for me. I am currently into the fashion business, and my ultimate goal is to become one of the most successful fashion designers who can take fashion to another level entirely. I want to create programs related to fashion that will enlighten our people here in Offa and beyond. I also dream of reviving our traditional Yoruba styles of dressing, which are gradually fading away.
Why Did You Decide To Contest For Arewa Offa, And How Was The Experience?
Becoming Arewa Offa has been my childhood dream. I wanted a platform to showcase my pride, talent, and love for our culture, and to serve as an inspiration to other young ladies out there. The competition was tough, as all the contestants were talented. But in every competition, there must be a winner, and I am grateful to have been chosen. It’s a dream come true.
What Plans Do You Have For Your Reign As Arewa Offa?
I plan to use my platform to create awareness about issues affecting the girl child and to remind people of our rich cultural heritage — how we used to dress, behave, and speak in ways that added value to our lives. I also want to encourage parents to always fulfill their responsibilities towards their children.
What Has This Title Taught You Personally?
Being Arewa Offa means so much to me. It has taught me to be strong, determined, confident, kind, and to love the people who truly deserve it. The title is priceless to me because of the experiences and lessons it has brought into my life.
Do You Have A message For Young People Who Look Up To You?
My advice is simple: stay focused, don’t allow yourself to be distracted, and always be prayerful. Most importantly, develop the spirit of sportsmanship, because it’s not always about winning, but about learning and growing.
How Can The Community Support You In Achieving Your Goals?
The community can support me by sponsoring my programs, connecting me with people who can help me achieve my vision, and by always cheering me on in everything I do.
