[PHOTOS] Osun Monarchs Rally Support for NUJ’s E-Library Project with Donations of Air-Conditioners, Computers

In a resounding show of support for journalism and education, traditional rulers across Osun State have backed the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), OSBC Chapel, with generous donations towards the ongoing E-Library project.

The symbolic gestures were announced during an inspection tour of the E-Library facility at Ile-Awiye, Oke Baale, Osogbo. The library, named in honour of the Olowu of Kuta Kingdom, Oba Hameed Adekunle Oyelude Makama Tegbosun, CON, received a significant boost as Oba Makama, who is also the Life Patron of the Chapel, pledged the donation of four air-conditioners to ensure a conducive learning environment.

In his royal message, the Eburu of Iba in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Oba Prof. Adekunle Okunoye Adeogun, announced his commitment to provide six computer systems as his contribution to the project, highlighting the importance of digital literacy in contemporary journalism.

The Olowu of Kuta was accompanied by a distinguished entourage of monarchs, each pledging solidarity with the initiative. They included Oba Ismaila Gbadamosi Fabunmi (Olaa of Ajagunlase), Oba Dr. Kazeem Adio Orioye (Onigege of Igege), Oba Dr. Alamu Moshood Oparonke (Onisara of Feesu Kingdom), Oba Musibau Adebayo Akinloye (Oori of Oloori), Oba Femi Idowu (Olaota of Ilota), Oba Adekunle Omolola (Oniraan of Iran), and Oba Waliulah Azeez Alabi (Olu of Lahan). All expressed their readiness to contribute resources to ensure the successful completion of what many have described as a historic project for the NUJ.

Also present were eminent personalities and groups including Chief Ogundeji Eleuibon, the Big Brothers Club of Osun, Responsible Ladies Group, Nigeria Youth Council leadership, Online Media Owners Association, YMLF Osun, and members of the Olowu-in-Council. These stakeholders pledged their collective support for the E-Library, underscoring the project’s significance for advancing journalism and research in the state.

Speaking at the event, Engr. Mayowa Olosho, Chairman of the OSBC Board, and Mrs. Jolaade Igbaroola, Director-General/Permanent Secretary of the media conglomerate, lauded the royal fathers and supporting groups for their generosity. They described the initiative as a milestone that will position Osun’s media landscape as a model for others.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of NUJ, OSBC Chapel, Comrade Lateef Agboola, traced the project’s origins to the vision of past chapel leaders who sought to establish a hub of information and knowledge. Agboola emphasized that the E-Library, upon completion, will not only serve NUJ members but also researchers and the general public seeking access to reliable information.

He assured stakeholders of his administration’s commitment to making the library fully operational before the end of July 2025.

With the momentum generated by the royal endorsements and widespread community support, the NUJ’s E-Library project is poised to become a beacon of knowledge, enhancing journalism practice and research in Osun State.
