Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 12 Kaduna residents in a mob attack in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, demanding immediate action from security agencies to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.
The victims, all from the Basawa community in Zaria, were part of a 31-member group travelling in an 18-seater Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria bus en route to Qua’an Pan LGA for a wedding. They reportedly lost their way and stopped to ask for directions when they were attacked by a mob.
Eleven other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Mangu General Hospital.
In a statement released on Saturday, Governor Sani described the incident as “barbaric and senseless,” asserting that such heinous acts must not go unpunished.
“There is absolutely no justification for attacking any Nigerian citizen anywhere in this country. This savagery must be met with swift and decisive justice,” he stated.
He also called on the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to take urgent steps to coordinate security measures and ensure those behind the attack are brought to book.
“I will personally monitor the progress of the investigation. We must signal that impunity will not be tolerated,” Governor Sani stressed.
The governor urged Kaduna residents to remain calm and avoid reprisals, assuring them that the state government is fully engaged in supporting the victims’ families and providing medical care for the injured.
“I am in close contact with the families of the deceased and we will do everything within our capacity to ease their burden,” he added.
