Accepting All Defectors Is Hurting APC – Obono-Obla

A former presidential aide and senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, has warned that the party is making a big mistake by allowing just anyone to join, especially from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In recent months, many politicians have left their parties to join the APC. But Obono-Obla believes this is dangerous for the party’s future.

He said most of these new members do not understand or believe in the original ideas and values that brought the APC together in 2013. Instead, they are causing problems within the party.

“These same people who came in recently are now the ones trying to divide the APC,” he said. “They are not true party loyalists, and they don’t have the same experience or commitment as those who helped build the party from the start.”

Obono-Obla said that since the APC took power in 2015, it has been accepting too many people without checking if they truly support the party’s vision. In doing so, he said, the party has pushed aside its founding members who worked hard to form it.

He also commented on the new party being planned by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, called the All Democratic Alliance (ADA). He noted that many of those behind this new group only joined the APC between 2014 and 2019, long after the party was already strong.

Obono-Obla advised the APC to focus on its original values and stop welcoming everyone without considering their loyalty or purpose.
