With the 2027 general elections fast approaching, political tension is beginning to rise as campaign posters of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, have surfaced prominently in several parts of Jigawa State, fueling speculation about his presidential ambition.
The posters, adorned with the logo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were strategically placed in key locations across Dutse, the state capital. Bold campaign messages such as “To Move Nigeria Forward 2027: His Excellency Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde for President” and “2027: Seyi Makinde Is the Answer” were visibly printed on the posters.
Notable areas where the materials were seen include Unity Pentagon, Police Headquarters Roundabout, Mai Kwarin Roundabout, Obasanjo Road, Muhammadu Buhari Street, Abdulsalami Abubakar Street, and Abdullahi Mai Kano Road.
Confirming the development, the National Secretary of the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group for Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027), Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, told reporters that the poster campaign was part of a coordinated grassroots mobilisation strategy.
“We’ve come together as progressive youth groups across the country to unanimously support Governor Seyi Makinde for the presidency in 2027,” Abdullahi stated. “We are actively engaging political stakeholders and laying a solid foundation for nationwide support.”
He further revealed that outreach efforts have commenced across the geopolitical zones, with immediate plans to expand the campaign’s visibility beyond Jigawa.
“Next week, we will be deploying posters and campaign materials in Kano, Bauchi, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, and Gombe. Thereafter, we will extend the momentum to southern states as part of our broader strategic rollout,” he added.
Although Governor Makinde has not publicly declared his interest in the presidency, the surge in promotional activities by support groups suggests a calculated build-up towards a potential bid.
