The Federal Government has declared Thursday a public holiday in observance of the 2025 Democracy Day.
This announcement was made in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Mrs. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
In the statement, Ajani conveyed that Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extended the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Nigerians for celebrating 26 years of uninterrupted civilian rule.
“June 12 marks a significant milestone in our journey to building a nation founded on truth, justice, peace, and the assurance of a bright future,” Tunji-Ojo said.
He emphasized that the last 26 years reflect Nigeria’s resilience, strength, and courage, offering renewed hope for the future.
Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the commitment of the Renewed Hope government under President Bola Tinubu to upholding democracy, which is grounded in the will of the people, and shaping the country’s political, economic, social, and cultural landscape accordingly.
