A yet-to-be-identified student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has died after reportedly jumping from a three-storey building, allegedly under the influence of a hard drug.
The incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at a student lodge near Royal Kitchen junction, close to the university gate in Awka, Anambra State.
Eyewitnesses said the student jumped from the upper floor of the building and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Residents claimed the student had consumed MKPURUMMIRI, a notorious hard drug, shortly before the fatal jump. They also recounted hearing a loud thud before discovering the victim lying in a pool of blood.
Further investigations revealed that the student’s roommate was also under the influence of the same substance. He was found in a disoriented state inside their room and is currently in police custody. Authorities say he will be questioned once he stabilizes.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of his family.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the university management nor the police have issued an official statement on the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
