[PHOTOS] 2027: Kwara South Assembly Members, Political Leaders Endorse Kwara North Governorship Bid

A fresh wave of political realignment is gaining momentum in Kwara State, as lawmakers and local government chairmen from Kwara South have thrown their weight behind the zoning of the 2027 governorship to Kwara North, citing equity, fairness, and a desire to strengthen unity across the state.

This endorsement came on the heels of the fifth monthly Kwara South Unification Meeting, held on Sunday, June 1, in Offa, at the Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun Constituency.

The well-attended political gathering, hosted by Hon. Gbenga Yussuf, the Member representing Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun in the State House of Assembly, brought together serving lawmakers, council chairmen, grassroots leaders, and political stakeholders from across the seven local governments that make up the senatorial district.

Other lawmakers present included Hon. Gani Abolarin (Chief Whip, Ekiti), Hon. AGF Salahuddeen (Omupo), Hon. Shola Odetundun (Irepodun), Hon. Rasaq Omotosho (Isin), Hon. Joseph Bamgboye (Oke-Ero), and Ogbeni Seun Ogunniyi (Ojomu Balogun).

Also in attendance were chairmen of Isin, Ifelodun, Oke Ero, Oyun, Offa, and Ekiti local governments, along with various grassroots leaders and political stakeholders.

Notably, the Kwara South Equity Advocate Group, led by Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal, reaffirmed its commitment to equitable power-sharing arrangements that foster political inclusion and statewide development.

In a four-point communique issued after the meeting, the stakeholders:

1. Reaffirmed their loyalty to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and commended his infrastructural strides across Kwara South.

2. Expressed unwavering support for his administration’s policies and developmental initiatives.

3. Acknowledged the developmental gains recorded in Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun Constituency as reflective of inclusive governance.

4. Called for a shift of the governorship to Kwara North in 2027 as a mark of fairness and justice.

The meeting marks the fifth in a series of rotational political engagements initiated by lawmakers and local council leaders in Kwara South, a move many observers believe is gradually laying the groundwork for realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As the zoning conversation takes root, all eyes are now on Kwara Central to see whether it will align with the growing southern support for a Kwara North governorship. This is believed to be a development that could significantly shape the race to Government House in Ilorin.
