Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared that he remains on the Federal Government’s wanted list despite a change in administration.
Igboho made the remark on Wednesday in response to comments by Naja’atu Mohammed, a former director of President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Council. Mohammed had reportedly questioned why Igboho appeared to enjoy freedom of movement while other separatist leaders, like Nnamdi Kanu, remained in detention.
Reacting in a personally signed statement sent to The Punch from Ibadan, Oyo State, Igboho slammed Mohammed’s comments as “ignorant and short-sighted,” accusing her of peddling propaganda and trying to drag him into political disputes.
“I’m still on the wanted list of the Federal Government even though President Tinubu is now in office,” he stated.
He explained that he currently resides in Europe and travels using his German passport, adding that he cannot return to Nigeria because the order declaring him wanted — issued during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure — remains in effect.
“What was my offence? I spoke out against the constant killing of farmers, attacks, and sexual violence committed by herdsmen in South-West communities during Buhari’s administration,” he said.
Recalling the July 1, 2021 raid on his Ibadan home by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army, Igboho said two of his associates were killed and 13 others arrested in the operation, which he described as an assassination attempt.
He also criticized Mohammed for remaining silent during the height of Boko Haram attacks and herder-related violence in both the North and South-West.
“Where was Naja’atu when terrorists were killing innocent Nigerians during Buhari’s time?” he asked. “She should stop using my name in her campaign of calumny.”
Igboho further alleged that under Buhari’s rule, controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Abubakar Gumi served as a government-backed negotiator with terrorists and allegedly profited from it. He argued that the Tinubu administration’s tougher stance on insurgency might be the reason behind recent criticisms from figures like Mohammed.
“She must stop dragging my name into her misguided agenda,” he warned.
