The Kano State Government has suspended Ibrahim Rabiu, the Special Adviser to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Transport, over what it described as “unsubstantiated and inappropriate comments” directed at former Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruq Ibrahim, announced that Rabiu’s suspension takes immediate effect, with a query issued to him for violating official conduct.
“The action was taken following unguarded utterances made by Rabiu, which the government views as a breach of official conduct and a direct affront to the person of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,” the statement read.
According to the government, Rabiu’s comments, which reportedly touched on political defection and made disparaging insinuations about Kwankwaso, were baseless and did not reflect the official position of the Kano State Government.
Alhaji Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, also distanced the administration from Rabiu’s remarks, stating that they were purely personal views.
“We wish to state clearly that the opinions expressed by Hon. Rabiu were personal and do not represent the views of the Governor or the Kano State Government,” Dawakin Tofa stated.
The government further cautioned all political appointees against making unauthorized statements, emphasizing that only the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, is authorized to speak for the government, while Dawakin Tofa represents the Governor.
Ibrahim Rabiu had earlier claimed that Senator Kwankwaso met with President Bola Tinubu multiple times and was being persuaded to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He later recanted, apologizing to Kwankwaso and attributing his remarks to the “work of the devil.”
In a follow-up message, Rabiu clarified that he was not authorized by Senator Kwankwaso to issue any statements on his behalf.
