The Labour Party has announced its 26 chairmanship candidates ahead of the July 12 Local Government elections in Lagos State.
State Chairperson, Pastor Dayo Ekong, confirmed the development on Saturday in Lagos. She stated that the candidates emerged from primary elections held across 26 designated locations on Friday. Ekong clarified that the party conducted primaries in only 26 out of the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos, citing strategic reasons for not fielding candidates in the remaining 30 councils.
She listed some of the councils where the party would not be presenting candidates, including Ikeja, Surulere, Agege, Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Lagos Island East, Lagos Island West, and Ajeromi-Ifelodun.
Ekong also revealed that the primary election for Oshodi/Isolo Local Government would be rescheduled to complete the party’s list of 27 expected candidates.

Pastor Ekong commended the peaceful conduct of the primaries, describing the process as transparent and successful.
“The primaries were conducted successfully. I am particularly happy that the LGA primaries went well in almost all locations. They were free, credible, and transparent. For the few areas with issues, security operatives managed to calm the situation, allowing the primaries to proceed smoothly,” she said.
“It was a great day for the Labour Party in Lagos,” Ekong added.
