The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended five suspects linked to the abduction and trafficking of a newborn baby, following a detailed investigation conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
The incident was reported on May 5, 2025, at the Ajah Police Division by a man who raised an alarm over the sudden disappearance of his 16-year-old cousin, Miss Happiness, who was pregnant by an unidentified individual.
Due to financial constraints, the complainant’s mother had temporarily entrusted the teenager to the care of one Nonye Osi.
However, instead of providing support, Osi allegedly conspired with accomplices to move the girl to an unknown location. When she was eventually found, both the baby and the pregnancy were missing, prompting the case’s transfer to the SCID for deeper investigation.
Detectives later uncovered that the infant had been sold for ₦3 million.
The suspects arrested include Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo.
Police operatives successfully traced and recovered the two-week-old baby from Agemuwo in the Badagry area. The infant, found in stable condition, is currently under the care of the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, pending reunification with his biological mother.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all residents and assured that efforts are ongoing to bring all individuals involved in the crime to justice.
