[OPINION] Dr. Kolawole Gbolashere Balogun: A Trailblazer

Today, we celebrate the birthday of Engr. (Dr.) Kolawole Gbolashere Balogun, a distinguished son of Offa, an industrial pathfinder, and the visionary founder and CEO of Momas Electric Company—Nigeria’s foremost indigenous manufacturer of smart and prepaid electricity meters.

Dr. Balogun’s life is a compelling story of ingenuity, perseverance, and patriotic service. Over the years, he has risen as a towering figure in Nigeria’s energy sector, pioneering local solutions to power distribution challenges and breaking barriers in a space long dominated by foreign players. Through Momas, he has championed innovation, job creation, and technology transfer, paving the way for Nigeria’s energy independence.

His recognition by Summit University, Offa, with the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science, is a fitting tribute to his remarkable contributions to engineering, industrial development, and national progress. Yet beyond his technical brilliance, Dr. Balogun is deeply admired for his humility, philanthropy, and unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and community development.

A true Offa patriot, he has consistently used his platform to uplift his roots, supporting educational, social, and economic causes across Ibolo land and beyond.

As he marks another year of impactful life, we salute Dr. Kola Balogun’s unrelenting drive, his service to the country, and his legacy as a builder of both machines and minds. May the years ahead be filled with continued innovation, robust health, and greater opportunities to serve humanity.
