A former Director of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign, Oladimeji Fabiyi, has criticized the party’s leadership, accusing them of irresponsibility and collusion with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fabiyi expressed his dissatisfaction during an interview on Arise News, where he lamented the party’s failure to address internal disciplinary issues since the 2023 general elections. He singled out the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who publicly admitted to working against the PDP during the elections, yet has faced no repercussions.
“It is shocking that Wike, after openly confessing to sabotaging the party, has not been called to account,” Fabiyi stated. He further alleged that the PDP’s leadership lacks the courage to impose sanctions on party members who undermine its objectives.
The rift between Wike and the PDP began after the party’s presidential ticket was secured by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a development that led Wike, along with four other governors, to support APC’s candidate, Bola Tinubu, who eventually won the presidential race.
Fabiyi expressed frustration with the party’s current National Working Committee (NWC), stating that he has lost confidence in their ability to steer the party forward. “For me, I’ve totally lost confidence in the current leadership of the party. I don’t see them getting anything right until they all leave so that we can have a new lease of life in the party,” he asserted.
He also criticized the reconciliation efforts led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, questioning Saraki’s commitment to the North Central region during critical moments. “When the North Central needed him the most, he deserted them. So as far as I’m concerned, it’s all jokes,” Fabiyi remarked.
Fabiyi urged the PDP to confront the truth about its leadership shortcomings, emphasizing that progress cannot be achieved without accountability. He questioned the effectiveness of the party’s reconciliation committee, asking, “What has been the outcome of the reconciliation committee? What have they done?”
According to Fabiyi, the lack of disciplinary action against Wike sends a message of compromise rather than strategic governance. “The Governors’ Forum meeting, to me, is just a gathering of compromise rather than a gathering of strategy. The expectations of party faithful were high—they thought these governors would address critical issues and make hard decisions.”
Fabiyi concluded with a call for responsible leadership, insisting that until those undermining the party’s integrity are held accountable, the PDP’s chances of reclaiming political strength remain bleak.
