President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Abia State on May 23 to commission key infrastructural projects, including the newly reconstructed 6.5-kilometre Port Harcourt Road in Aba. The road, which had been in a state of disrepair for over 15 years, was recently rebuilt by the administration of Governor Alex Otti.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made this known during an inspection tour of the Osisioma axis of the 56-kilometre Abia Tower of Peace, Umuahia to Rail Flyover, Aba section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway—a separate Federal Government project.
Expressing satisfaction with the completed work on Port Harcourt Road, Umahi praised Governor Otti for the quality of the reconstruction. “I am pleased with the work done. Otti is my relation, and excellence runs in our veins. I would have been surprised if he wasn’t doing well,” the Minister remarked.
During the tour, Umahi also addressed issues regarding damage to the Osisioma section of the expressway, reportedly caused by underground drainage works carried out by a contractor for the Abia State Government. He instructed the state Controller of Works to halt the contractor’s activities and report to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja for further discussions.
The Minister assured that he would meet with Governor Otti to find an effective solution to the issue. He also revealed that the reconstruction of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, which began in 2013, is expected to be completed by November this year and subsequently inaugurated by President Tinubu.
