Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has imposed an immediate ban on the sale of petrol in all filling stations across Bama Local Government Area, including Bama town and Banki.
The directive, announced after consultations with security agencies, is part of ongoing efforts to tackle security challenges in the region.
In a statement released in Maiduguri on Saturday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Malam Dauda Iliya, conveyed Zulum’s decision.
“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect,” Zulum declared.
The governor warned that violators would face strict legal consequences, emphasizing that there would be “no sacred cows” in the enforcement of the ban.
“Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” he stated.
Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace in the state, urging residents to cooperate with security measures aimed at curbing insurgent activities.
The petrol ban is part of a broader strategy by the Zulum administration to disrupt the supply chains of insurgents and limit their mobility in conflict-affected areas.
