Professor of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for disparaging his recent launch of a shadow cabinet.
Recall that APC spokesperson, Felix Morka, had labeled Utomi an “intellectual drama king” following the unveiling of his Big Tent Coalition Shadow Government.
In a series of posts on X, Utomi responded by suggesting that the APC’s reaction indicates a fear of scrutiny.
“Many years ago, Felix Morka sat in the back of my car as I drove to appointments. His mission was to encourage me to do the very things I am doing today. Now, I am a drama king. Many playwrights would love that title. I think I love it too. I won’t dignify him with a response,” Utomi wrote.
The political economist expressed concern over the government’s anxiety towards basic civic engagement, calling it unprecedented in a democratic setting.
“I have never seen a democratic government panic so much because citizens are coming together to make rational demands about how they execute their duties. There must be so much to hide—scrutiny frightens them. How did we sink so low?” he queried.
Utomi further noted that a mature government would have embraced the shadow cabinet initiative as part of democratic culture.
Earlier on April 24, Utomi announced his plans to mobilize 7.2 million Nigerians to converge in Abuja for a protest against Nigeria’s political elite.
