Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest Julius Abure for alleged impersonation, following reports of his suspension by the Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP).
Reacting through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, on Wednesday, Otti dismissed the news of his suspension as a “joke taken too far” and an “affront on democracy.”
The governor cited a Supreme Court ruling that declared Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party. He added that the Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee had stripped Abure of any authority to present himself as the party’s leader.
“For the record, the highest court in the land, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, has clearly and unequivocally stated that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party,” Otti stated.
He urged Nigerians to disregard the reports of his suspension, describing it as a desperate move by Abure.
“Just hours after being summoned by a committee set up by the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee to respond to allegations of gross misconduct, financial misappropriation, impersonation, and anti-party activities, Abure rushed to the press to announce the purported suspension of Governor Otti and other key party members,” Ekeoma said.
Otti further called on the IGP to act swiftly by arresting Abure for impersonation and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce the Supreme Court judgment to safeguard the integrity of the judiciary and protect Nigeria’s democracy.
