Former Nigerian IGP Musiliu Smith has resigned from his position as the head of the Police Service Commission (PSC),his resignation was reported by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani.

President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted Smith’s resignation, according to Ani, who said it was due to health reasons.

Yes, he resigned on his own initiative and the President accepted his resignation, according to Ani.

In the midst of a protracted dispute over recruitment activities between the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force, he tendered his resignation.

Ani pointed out that the Commission had not yet released a formal statement regarding Smith’s resignation.

Smith has over four years left on his contract with the Commission, which is set to expire in July 2023.

Following a police strike, he retired in March 2002 after being named IGP in May 1999.
