Police in Isiokolo, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State, have arrested a woman accused of beating her one-year-old son to death with a cane in the Kokori community.
According to residents, the woman’s actions were fueled by frustration and emotional distress, allegedly stemming from being abandoned by the child’s father—a suspected internet fraudster—who had denied responsibility for the pregnancy. Left to fend for herself, the woman reportedly struggled with resentment and transferred her anger onto the child.
Sources claim that she became visibly irritated whenever she saw the boy, as he reminded her of the rejection and hardship she faced during her pregnancy.
On the day of the tragic incident, the woman allegedly flogged the boy so severely that he could not survive the beating. Neighbours attempted to intervene and rushed the child to the hospital, but he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Local residents described the woman as troubled and overwhelmed, expressing shock at the incident.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has not yet responded to inquiries seeking official confirmation of the incident.
