The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrest of two security personnel for allegedly aiding terrorist activities in Nigeria’s North-East.
Director of Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, revealed that the individuals were members of the hybrid forces—a mix of conventional troops and auxiliary personnel—deployed to support counter-insurgency efforts in the region.
He said the arrests were made during a series of operations conducted between April 26 and 29 in Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali local government areas of Borno and Adamawa states.
“In a well-coordinated operation, troops intercepted four terrorist logistics suppliers. Unfortunately, two of them were found to be members of the hybrid forces,” Kangye said.
Describing their actions as a “betrayal,” he urged field commanders to intensify awareness campaigns among their personnel to prevent further acts of sabotage.
In a related development, Kangye disclosed that troops, working alongside hybrid forces, conducted several offensive operations including fighting patrols, raids, and clearance missions in Gwoza, Dikwa, Bama, Chibok, Gujba, Geidam, and Yunusari LGAs in Borno State.
During these operations, several terrorists were neutralised, six kidnapped victims were rescued, and weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and bicycles were recovered.
Elsewhere, in the South-South region, troops intensified efforts against oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta. According to Kangye, over 86,000 litres of stolen crude oil, 72,000 litres of illegally refined diesel, and more than 2,600 litres of petrol were recovered.
Troops also destroyed dozens of illegal refining sites and seized boats, storage tanks, tricycles, mobile phones, and seven vehicles used in the illicit trade.
