A prosecution witness identified as PW-AAA testified on Friday that Simon Ekpa, a prominent supporter of Nnamdi Kanu and the Biafran separatist movement, would soon be extradited from Finland to Nigeria to face trial.
PW-AAA, an operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) who participated in the 2015 arrest of Kanu at a hotel in Lagos, made the disclosure during cross-examination by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The witness’s identity was withheld for security reasons.
During the proceedings before Justice James Omotosho, the Federal Government also presented several items recovered from Kanu, which the court admitted as evidence. These include multiple electronic gadgets such as laptops, iPads, modems, microphones, a drone speaker, and mobile phones, along with various personal belongings, wristwatches, perfumes, and official documents—including Nigerian and British passports bearing Kanu’s name.
The witness confirmed under cross-examination that no weapons were found on Kanu or the woman arrested alongside him. He noted that while the seized items might not appear threatening on their own, they could be considered suspicious depending on the accused’s intent.
PW-AAA further stated that he did not personally analyze the items, as his duty was limited to arresting Kanu and taking his statement.
Justice Omotosho adjourned the trial to May 6, 7, and 8 for continuation of cross-examination.
