A fresh wave of violence hit Aloshi, a community in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, on Tuesday night, as gunmen killed a 37-year-old man and abducted his wife.
The assailants, believed to be kidnappers, stormed the residence of the victim, Mr. Stephen Kwaghtomun, at about 11:30 p.m., opening fire and killing him on the spot before taking his 27-year-old wife to an unknown destination.
The incident has thrown the town into mourning and heightened fears over the worsening security situation in the area.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers shot sporadically upon arrival before executing Kwaghtomun, popularly known in the community as “Action.” His wife was reportedly dragged away during the chaos.
“The entire community is still in shock,” a resident said, requesting anonymity due to security concerns.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Nasarawa State Command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said in a statement on Wednesday that the Divisional Police Officer in Keana reported the attack and that efforts were underway to apprehend the culprits and rescue the victim.
Kwaghtomun’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital in Obi.
