A wedding scheduled to take place over the weekend at the Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2, in Aba, Abia State, was abruptly cancelled by the church after the bride reportedly failed to comply with certain pre-marital requirements.
According to sources within the congregation, the bride declined to spend the night at the church’s parsonage, where she was expected to receive counseling from the officiating pastor’s wife—a tradition upheld by the church ahead of weddings. She was also expected to undergo a pregnancy test, in line with the church’s longstanding practices.
Although the bride had initially agreed to the conditions, she reportedly did not show up at the parsonage on the eve of the ceremony.
A journalist, Promise Uzoma Okoro, who was present at the scene, confirmed the development, stating that the refusal led church authorities to call off the wedding. “Guests had already assembled for the event when the announcement was made,” he said.
It remains unclear whether the couple sought to continue with their nuptials elsewhere. Many guests, some of whom traveled long distances for the occasion, left the venue disheartened.
As of press time, neither the church nor the couple had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
