The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman in connection with the suspected murder of a 65-year-old man in the Oko-Oba, Abule-Egba area of Lagos.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, outlined the disturbing details surrounding the case.
Hundeyin said the police were alerted on March 29 after the body of a man was discovered in a service apartment at Oko-Oba.
Investigations revealed that on March 27, around 5:20 p.m., an unidentified woman had checked into the apartment with the deceased. However, just a few hours later, she allegedly fled the scene, taking with her the man’s car and other valuables. She reportedly told the housekeeper she would return shortly but never did.
A routine inspection the next day led to the discovery of the man’s lifeless body. At the scene, police recovered an empty syringe, two cans of malt drink, and several bottles of water, prompting suspicions of foul play.
The body was subsequently deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) mortuary for autopsy.
Following an intensive manhunt, the suspect was apprehended on Saturday night at around 9:30 p.m. in the Oko-Oba area.
“She confessed to poisoning the deceased by lacing his malt drink with a toxic substance, which led to his death,” Hundeyin stated.
Further investigations helped authorities confirm the identity of the victim, who was initially listed as unknown.
Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, assured Lagos residents that the Command remains committed to public safety and justice.
“Our resolve is firm. Those who commit crimes against members of the community will be pursued and brought to justice,” Hundeyin emphasized.
