The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has firmly dismissed allegations that it posts candidates to exam centres outside their selected towns.
In a statement released Saturday in Abuja, JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, urged the public to disregard such misinformation, emphasizing the Board’s commitment to candidate convenience by assigning examination centres within their chosen towns.
“Candidates are given full autonomy to select their preferred exam towns during registration,” Benjamin said. “JAMB ensures they are posted within these locations, without exception.”
He condemned the false narrative, blaming it on misinformation spread by some candidates and school proprietors, with the intent to mislead parents and tarnish the Board’s image.
“To set the record straight: no candidate is assigned to a different town than the one they chose. Any claims suggesting otherwise are malicious and unfounded,” he stated.
To challenge the ongoing misinformation, JAMB is offering a significant cash reward to anyone who can present verified proof of a candidate being posted outside their selected town. Such evidence must be submitted within 96 hours to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) via WhatsApp (08056003030) for independent verification.
Benjamin further compared the required 90-minute early arrival at CBT centres to the airline industry’s practice of asking passengers to arrive two hours before flight time, urging parents and candidates to appreciate the necessity of pre-exam verification processes.
He also highlighted an incident where a candidate refused to attempt any exam questions, believing miraculous assistance would intervene — a reminder of the dangers of misplaced beliefs.
Benjamin concluded by reaffirming JAMB’s dedication to transparency, fairness, and the public good, calling on Nigerians to place their trust in institutions that serve them.
