A 28-year-old electrician was electrocuted while working on a power line in the Eruwa area of Ibarapa East Local Government Area, Oyo State.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the Odo Babaode area of the town, where the victim was reportedly attempting to fix a fault on a high-tension line belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
According to the Oyo State Fire Service, the electrician was working on the live power line without isolating the feeder, resulting in a fatal shock.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating that a distress call was received at 3:29 p.m. on April 23.
“Fire personnel, led by PFS1 Peluola Babatunde, responded immediately and found the victim already electrocuted upon arrival. All necessary safety protocols were observed to secure the area before the body was recovered and handed over to the police from Eruwa Division,” Akinyinka said.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
