The Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday retrieved the body of an unidentified man from the Asa River in Ilorin, the state capital.

The recovery followed a report by officials from the state Ministry of Environment, who arrived at the fire service headquarters in a ministry vehicle with registration number 17B-D4KW. The officials had discovered the body floating in the river and promptly alerted the fire service.

According to a statement issued in Ilorin by the fire service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene and successfully recovered the remains.

The body was handed over to the Ministry of Environment, which is now awaiting identification and contact from the deceased’s relatives.

Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, used the opportunity to urge residents to prioritise safety. He also advised against sending underage children to fetch water from wells, stressing the importance of caution in daily activities.
