Tension enveloped the Idimu area of Lagos State on Sunday following the gruesome discovery of two corpses—one of them decapitated—along Oladun Road.
The victims were reportedly killed late Saturday night, but their bodies were only found the following morning, prompting shock and fear among residents.
When Newsbulletin Metro visited the scene, the bodies remained sprawled several meters apart, attracting a large crowd of stunned onlookers.
One resident, Lanre Ajao, identified one of the deceased as a local man known as Baba Oja.
“We woke up to find their lifeless bodies on the road,” Ajao said. “The one without a head hasn’t been identified yet, but the other is Baba Oja. He was well-known here and often seen mingling with boys who run after flashy cars to beg for money near the Council bus stop. Just yesterday, he was seen directing traffic for some of those cars.”
Another resident, Jamiu Raji, suggested that the killings bore the hallmark of cult violence.
“This wasn’t a random fight. The manner of the killings points to a cult-related attack. This kind of violence is rare in our area, which is why everyone is so shocked,” he said.
Eyewitnesses said the bodies remained at the scene for nearly 10 hours before police operatives arrived. The second victim was later identified as another resident of the community, though his name was yet to be confirmed as of press time.
A resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, claimed that the families of the deceased were allegedly asked to pay before the bodies could be released to them.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, were unsuccessful. Calls to his phone went unanswered, and a text message sent to him had yet to receive a response at the time of filing this report.
This incident comes on the heels of a wave of cult-related killings in the region. In February, no fewer than three persons were killed in separate clashes involving the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the Mushin area of Lagos and the Lantoro area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
