The Borno State Police Command has arrested eight suspects in connection with the alleged killing and secret burial of a newborn baby at a private hospital in Kwatam, along Baga Road in Maiduguri.
The incident, which occurred on April 18, 2025, at about 1:00 p.m., came to light following a distress call from concerned residents who reportedly witnessed suspicious activity at the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Command, Nahun Daso, confirmed the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday. He said officers from the ITE Division swiftly responded to the call, cordoned off the facility, and arrested the suspects on the spot.
“Forensic experts were immediately deployed to the location, and the remains of the baby were exhumed for examination,” Daso stated.
He added that the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime.
The police have called on the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across the state.
