Former Senator Shehu Sani, ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri, and former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) are among several prominent figures reportedly nominated for ambassadorial appointments by the Nigerian government.
Also said to be on the list are Fola Adeola, founder of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc; former Lagos State deputy governor Femi Pedro; and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode.
Sources reveal that the Department of State Services (DSS) is currently screening the nominees, with the final list expected to be made public in the coming weeks.
According to Vanguard, one of the nominees anonymously confirmed their selection over the weekend. A presidency official, also speaking anonymously, explained the delay in announcing the names: “Only those who have cleared security checks are announced. The process is ongoing, but we expect to have a list before the end of this month.”
News Bulletin recalls that Nigeria’s ambassadors were recalled from their posts last year, and replacements have yet to be formally announced. Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga previously noted that the nomination process is rigorous and must be completed before any names are forwarded to the National Assembly for confirmation.
