In what appears to be a strategic political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, two notable political figures in Nigeria, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo and Asiwaju Moshood Shittu, met in Ilorin on Friday.
The meeting took place at Oyedepo’s office in Ilorin, Kwara State capital and centered on the state’s political direction and national developments.
Akogun Oyedepo, a prominent leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Convener of the Kwara Redemption Movement (KRM), hosted Asiwaju Shittu, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), former National Chairman of the defunct Alliance National Party (ANP), and Director-General (North) of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s 2023 presidential campaign.
The Kwara Redemption Movement, which convener is Oyedepo, is a coalition of politicians across party lines, focused on sensitizing and mobilizing the electorate to make informed decisions in the 2027 elections.
According to its conveners, the initiative arose from the growing dissatisfaction with the perceived lack of equity, justice, and fair distribution of amenities in the state.
Speaking after the meeting, Shittu emphasized the need for collaboration among progressive-minded individuals to “rescue Kwara from the present Kwara,” a reference to the current state of affairs in the state.
“We discussed how to reposition Kwara politically and ensure that governance truly serves the people. We also deliberated on national issues and explored ways to collaborate towards the 2027 agenda,” Shittu stated.
