Dr. Idris Abdul’aziz Dutsen Tanshi, a prominent Sunni scholar and Chief Imam of Dutsen Tanshi Jummaat Mosque in Bauchi, has passed away after a prolonged illness.
The respected cleric died in Bauchi shortly after returning from India, where he had been receiving medical treatment. Despite his health challenges, he remained committed to his scholarly work.
His passing was confirmed by one of his close disciples, Abdulhakeem Shaaban Baban Keke, in an interview with LEADERSHIP on Thursday night. According to him, the scholar took his last breath in Bauchi following his return from treatment abroad.
Tanshi was widely recognized for his steadfast commitment to the Sunnah and his strong opposition to religious innovations (Bid’ah) that lack a basis in the Quran or Sunnah. His deep Islamic knowledge and advocacy for pure monotheism earned him the title “Dr. Tauhidi” among his followers.
His teachings, often delivered with clarity and conviction, played a significant role in shaping Islamic understanding in Nigeria and beyond.
Due to his illness, Sheikh Abdul’aziz had been unable to deliver sermons in recent months, News Bulletin reports.
