The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has appointed Chief Emmanuel Iyase as Okao Eguae (District Head from the Benin Palace) over the Ologbo and Ehor Dukedoms in Ikpoba-Okha and Uhunmwode Local Government Areas of Edo State.
According to the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Iyase becomes the first Okao Eguae from the Benin Palace and will be responsible for strengthening traditional leadership structures in the region.
His appointment follows the suspension of the Enogie of Ologbo, Prince Owen Jackson Akenzua, and the Enogie of Ehor, Chief D.E. Igiehon, along with 69 other rebellious Enigie (Dukes), who were removed for defying the Oba’s authority.
Speaking during the Ekpomwen-abor ceremony, an appreciation event following the conferment of chieftaincy titles at Ugha Ozolua within the Oba’s Palace, Oba Ewuare II reaffirmed that rebellion would not be tolerated in Benin Kingdom, particularly in Edo South Senatorial District.
He urged the newly appointed Okao to uphold integrity and avoid any unethical conduct that could weaken his authority or bring dishonor to the Dukedoms.
