U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Congress to immediately strip the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and National Public Radio (NPR) of federal funding, accusing both networks of extreme bias.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump lashed out at the two public broadcasters, branding them “horrible” and “completely biased.”
“NPR and PBS, two horrible and completely biased platforms (Networks!), should be DEFUNDED by Congress, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote.
He also urged Republican lawmakers to act swiftly, calling the networks a “giant SCAM” and alleging they function as arms of the “Radical Left Democrat Party.”
Trump’s remarks come in the wake of a contentious congressional hearing on Wednesday, where lawmakers grilled NPR and PBS executives over their funding sources and editorial objectivity.
The House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee hearing reflected ongoing Republican criticism that the two networks lean too far left in their news coverage.
Additionally, both NPR and PBS have faced increased scrutiny from Trump’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over their journalism and fundraising practices.
