Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused the leadership of the National Assembly, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, of corruption.
In a recent interview on Arise TV’s *Untold Stories With Adesua*, Atiku criticized the National Assembly for approving President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. He further alleged that Akpabio has a history of abusing women.
Atiku stated that he received numerous reports against Akpabio during his tenure as vice president when Akpabio served as a governor.
He said, “I was not surprised because I know the leadership is corrupt; there are no apologies about that.
They could do anything, and the Senate President is known to have that type of character even when he was a governor.”
In addition to financial corruption, Atiku claimed that Akpabio’s misconduct included abusive behaviour toward women: “He was not only corrupt as a governor, but he also had a habit of abusing women.”
Atiku condemned the state of emergency declared in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, labelling it politically motivated and an abuse of power. He called for the immediate reinstatement of the suspended Governor, Deputy Governor, and State Assembly members.
