The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has declared that President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could lose the 2027 presidential election, emphasizing that victory is not solely determined by individual brilliance or strategy.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Gabam revealed that top political figures across Nigeria are defecting to the SDP in large numbers. He affirmed that the party remains open to welcoming more high-profile politicians.

According to the News Bulletin, former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai recently left the APC to join the SDP, signalling a growing shift in political alignments.

“Virtually every day, we receive new decampees to the SDP from every state in the federation. Even today, I welcomed some dignitaries into my office. If you check online, you’ll find over 300 resignation letters from VIPs—some of them former Senators and Ministers—who are joining our party,” Gabam stated.

He reiterated the SDP’s determination to take control of the Presidential Villa in 2027.

“As the leader of a political party, my goal is to take over the government. The APC’s mission is to retain power, while the PDP aims to reclaim it. Our objective is clear—we are working to win in 2027,” he said when asked if the SDP is seeking to unseat the APC.

Gabam expressed confidence in the party’s chances, arguing that the APC risks losing power due to its failure to address the concerns of Nigerians.

“Anyone can lose an election—it’s not just about strategy or intelligence. If the current government had true competence and efficiency, they wouldn’t be making the mistakes we see today.

“We believe Nigeria has an abundance of untapped talent capable of delivering effective leadership. No single individual holds a monopoly on good governance,” he added.
