The Osun State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has reaffirmed that all health centres in the state remain open and fully operational, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise as deliberate falsehood.
Contrary to claims that health centres in Osun have been shut down, Com. (Dr) Kehinde Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, the recognised President of the Osun State Chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), assured the public that healthcare services at the grassroots remain uninterrupted. The Osun State Government is also actively rehabilitating primary healthcare centres (PHCs) across the state, with 200 already renovated and fully equipped.
Dr. Akindele also strongly condemned a misleading report aired on TVC by journalist Rafiu Hammed, calling it a politically motivated fabrication that misrepresents the reality on the ground. He urged TVC to uphold journalistic integrity, emphasizing that misinformation, particularly in the health sector, can have dire consequences for the public, including pregnant women who rely on free healthcare services.
Meanwhile, the Osun NLC reiterated its directive for local government workers to remain at home until the current unrest within the state and local government administration is resolved. While the union regrets the situation, it prioritizes the safety and well-being of its members and will only call for resumption when peace is assured.
The NLC also reaffirmed the legitimacy of its leadership and dismissed calls for resumption from unauthorized individuals allegedly working to destabilize the movement. It vowed to continue defending the rights of workers and the public, standing firm against intimidation and political interference.
The Osun State Government urges residents to disregard the false claims and trust that health centres remain open, committed to providing essential services to all.
